Cooking For A Family While On A Diet

cooking for familyDo you all cook your family a different meal than you or does everyone eat the same thing? I have two little ones 5 and 6 and they can be picky, they like “kid food”. Just curious how everyone does it.


We all eat the same thing.

What are some examples of meals that you find to be Atkins friendly as well as kid friendly?

  • Grain free spaghetti meatloaf (I don’t add fillers. Just 1 lb. ground beef, 1 lb. ground turkey, 1 lb. bulk pork sausage, 2 eggs.)
  • Meatballs (using 1 lb. meat, 1 egg, dried onion) in a homemade spaghetti sauce (no sugar) with spaghetti squash
  • Over cooked shredded zucchini/spaghetti squash, pizza, burgers (no buns) with veggie sticks & dippizza made on cauliflower crust tacos (and I make mine into a salad)low carb taco bake, honey mustard chicken (can be breasts cut into strips)
  • steamed veggies, grilled sausages or burgers (no bun)My kids aren’t picky.
  • They also love spicy roasted chicken, chicken & artichoke bake, beef roast, pork roast, ham roast, taco salad, chicken BLT tossed salad, tuna or salmon cakes, stir fry (serve over shredded carrots for fewer carbs), and more.

I haven’t started on Atkins yet, but I’m starting tomorrow. I plan to cook mostly the same meals for my DD and DH, but give them other options on side dishes and whatever I make that usually includes buns or bread, etc…I’ll have mine without like burgers and hot dogs. We love tacos so when we have taco’s, I’ll just make mine a salad without chips or a tortilla.

If I make, say, baked chicken, I’ll have a salad and low carb side dishes and maybe make them mac’n’cheese, mashed potatoes, etc…for them.

DH is actually looking forward to my new way of eating because he’s been gaining a little weight and he likes more natural foods so it’ll be good for him, too. Plus, my DD has been getting a little chunky around the middle so it’ll be good for her, too, to not eat so much junk!

For breakfast, I’ll do bacon and eggs and they can have egg sandwiches if they want or grilled cheeses, or just have cereal.

I’ll probably be eating a lot of tuna for quick meals and DD loves tuna so she can have that with me, but she’ll have crackers with hers.

We usually have the same meat and they eat different sides.

us too, or I’ll modify it a little for me. If we have tacos, low carb tortillas for me. If we make pizza, cheesy crust or cauliflower crust for me etc.

There are tons of recipes online that are good for the whole family.

Here we eat Mexican, and everyone eats the same things. Only difference is I do not eat the rice or corn tortillas!! Love the fact I can have my salsas and sauces!! We are big salad eaters, so I make salads for supper 1-2 times a week!
