How Do I Calculate Activity Points For Zumba Class?

ZumbaI’ve recently joined the gym and I’ve been alternating from cardio machines and Zumba classes which I absolutely love. My question is how do I calculate the activity points for the class? I tried looking for it on the e-tools but they don’t have anything close to Zumba.


I’ll do my best to answer your question.

The best thing you can do is find something with a similar intensity level and count that. For example I get a similar workout on an elliptical machine as I do when I run (now obviously both of those activities are online, but you get the idea). Is Zumba high, moderate or low intensity? If you search the activities get a feel for what is out there and what is close, is it like aerobics? I have never taken a Zumba class so I don’t know but you know your body best. If you worked your hiney off for 60 mins and felt like you were going to die pick a high intensity exercise if it is more like strolling through the mall than pick something low in intensity. Does that help at all?

I guess bottom line is you have to figure out how hard YOU worked and judge from there. For me personally running 3 miles is not nearly as intense as it was a year ago in fact I don’t even sweat the first mile so I have lowered my APs unless I run 6 or 8 miles, which makes me feel like I might die!

I’m going to try to figure it out that way. I would guess that Zumba is pretty high in the intensiveness level. I start sweating my buns off after a few minutes and it’s pretty much non stop for 55 minutes. It’s kind of hard to compare it to other classes though since I haven’t really done anything else but the Zumba. I’ll try my best to figure it out. I don’t usually use the extra points I gain exercising anyway I just wanted to kind of figure out it out for I guess tracking. Thank you for your help

I was wondering the same thing.. I just started at the YMCA and spend an hour on the machines, 5 mins on the stair-master (I know pitiful) and walk one mile on the track, Spend over an hour at the Y but not sure about points.. I have never taken Zumba but everyone says they LOVE it– They just started a class and I plan to sign up

Zumba ROCKS! I haven’t actually done it myself but my friend goes and tell me how much it rocks. I take hip hop class which is cheaper and also SO FUN!
